Top 5 weirdest things found at work by construction workers

Being a construction worker can be a pretty varied job – with no set office, you could find yourself in a different area, in new surroundings digging up land that hasn’t been touched in decades. So it is unsurprising that builders over the years have uncovered some particularly spectacular odds and ends at sites around the world. So for your entertainment, the team at Fix Radio have uncovered the 5 weirdest objects found by construction workers.

  1. Letter to Santa

This isn’t so much weird, so much as it is heartwarming, but we couldn’t, in all good conscious, leave it out. A Reading construction crew, when tearing down an old chimney, found a letter to Santa that was perfectly preserved, but clearly pretty old – especially because it asked for, chalk slippers and “any toys that Santa had to spare.”  A little different from the kids of today – who are more likely to ask for the majority of the contents of the Apple store. The crew shared the photo on Facebook, and amazingly found the original writer of the note – a David Hayhock who wrote the note in 1943! And given he had been a good boy and waited so patiently, they even bought him his presents. What a legend!

  1. An American Revolution-Era Warehouse Building

Yes, you read that correctly. A crew in Virginia found a warehouse in pristine condition. Dated by historians to 1755 - that’s over 200 years old! 100 by 24 foot in size it is believed to be the city’s first public building. As if that wasn’t enough, only two months later the same construction crew found a 50 foot long war ship as well as a 3 person privy. We have a strong suspicion that all these finds may have held up the building work.

  1. A rare endangered spider

Construction work on a £15 million motorway site in Texas was ground to a halt a few years back because….wait for it…..the discovery of a rare endangered spider. We kid you not. This spider was no ordinary spider, but rather the Braken Bat Cave meshweaver – which hasn’t been spotted in over 30 years and has the slightly odd claim to fame of being the only spider with no eyes. As if these creepy crawlies weren’t scary enough

  1. A safe

This is pretty epic really. Around 30 years ago the Government seized the home of one of the most famous drug lords of the time – Pablo Escobar. But, they clearly didn’t do a thorough check! When the house finally got a new owner – who went on to knock it down they found the safe of this Pablo Escobar. Frankly, if we found the thirty year old safe of an infamous drug dealer we’d probably keep schtum (we jest, of course). Sensibly, the new owner turned it in and since then the police have kept their lips firmly sealed on what’s inside. So we will allow your imagination to wander on this one lads.

  1. Dinosaur eggs

OK…this is the coolest one yet. Found in China, these dinosaur eggs were found when workers were building a new road. By no means has the first dinosaur eggs to be found in China (how cool!) the majority have belonged to the Oviraptor and duck-billed dinosaurs (why do dinosaurs get such cool names) but only time will tell what species these eggs came from.
